SIP Trunks

What are SIP trunks?
SIP trunking is a Voice over Internet Protocol and streaming media service based on the Session Initiation Protocol by which Internet telephony service providers deliver telephone services and unified communications to customers equipped with a SIP-based private branch exchange.

What are the benefits of SIP trunks?
  • Free calls between sites
  • Lower cost calls
  • Lower cost than ISDN, DDI ranges and CLI presentation are included in the price
  • Scaleable on a per channel basis
  • Easy to order and provision
  • Available over LLU or SDSL in selected areas or as a pure IP service
  • Opens up the whole new world of IP telephony services
  • Offers emergency services support
  • Complements a converged network with lower costs and simplified architecture
  • Geographic numbers independent of location, ie 0207 numbers ring a location in Wales

Who is it aimed at?
SIP trunks unlock the IP PBX and guarantee voice channels with the scalability required by any growing business. Our SIP offering is one of the first IP transit services in the market and gives flexibility to any business, small – medium – corporate. With a direct IP backbone reliability is comparable to digital BT circuits and SIP trunks can be used to replace or complement existing lines.

Many companies, recognising the flexibility and cost savings of SIP trunks are now using them as their primary source of communications with back-up ISDN and PSTN lines.
